KIBO in a professional development program for early childhood educators.
An overview of KIBO in a professional development program for early childhood educators, organized by Dr. Heather McKeen of Columbus State University in Columbus GA.
KIBO Ambassador Dr. Heather McKeen is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Columbus State University.
Build + Code + Play + Arts = Problem Solving Approach.
Technology has influenced the classroom today and how children learn the concepts using virtual environment. Children are trying to cope up with the upcoming technological influencers like KIBO.
Pre-skilled teachers are trained to have the skills and to successfully teach in the classroom.
KIBO seamlessly creates an environment related to pedagogy to show teachers
how to give importance and honour to various cultures adopted in the classroom which we believe will make teaching successful and learning of our kids efficient.
How did we make this happen amongst our CSU (Columbus State University) students?
We were able to connect to multi subject computational thinking and problem solving by providing professional development training for in-service teachers in grades pre-k through second grade.
Code building structure allows our pre-service teacher to understand that learning can also be student-led and needn’t only be teacher instructed.
How KIBO works?
KIBO can associate its relationship towards science, math social studies through simple engineering concepts. The kids are also connected with music while working with their design process plan such as the coding steps, work collaboratively, test the plan, make adjustments.
Here comes the interesting part where children would like to carry out what they have studied in their book about Willy Wonka. Teachers helps them to create an input Bots through which they can give you a full tour of the Chocolate Factory that they created.
To our surprise you won’t believe they can explain to you the process of chocolate making with the help of info bot box and through scrolling code.
This kind of learning with coding, transforms how teachers and students interact together says Dr. Mckeen, Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Columbus State University GA.
